Exelin worked with Skanska on two specific construction projects:
Glenfrome School in Bristol – a project to extend and refurbish a Bristol Primary school over the school summer holidays; and
The housing development of the former Battersea Power station in London.
We worked with the Skanska teams and their partners to map the whole build process including procurement, logistics, assembly and sign off to develop a robust operating model for future projects.
Cost and time savings of 44% and 60% respectively have been recorded, plus additional benefits in terms of safety, quality and sustainability.
For the Battersea Utility cupboards, the rate of production was doubled compared to traditional methods of construction.
Enhanced Programme-control, flexibility through better reaction to change
Quality improvements reduced defects and rework
Improved safety regime and the ability to remove work away from other trades
Efficiency improvement savings could be offered to the client
Cash flow – through lean optimisation, managing demand for site and potential off-site valuations
Ability to use less skilled labour, reduction in labour costs
Overall a greener solution, through optimised transport scheduling
Reduced overhead costs compared to fixed factory setups due to optimal utilisation
